Perhaps Atlanta’s ‘Uber for recycling’ won’t need a driver.

Atlanta-based Rubicon Global Holdings received a patent for a “Method, system, and vehicle for autonomous waste removal,” which it filed on Aug. 19, 2016.

Rubicon isn’t alone in the self-driving garbage collecting world.

In September, Rubicon Global, billed as the “Uber for recycling,” announced a $50 million strategic investment from Mexican private equity firm Promecap.

Backed by Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio, Rubicon uses the Internet and mobile technology to match a network of 4,500 independent waste haulers and recyclers with business customers.

CEO Nate Morris said the recent investment values Rubicon at more than $1 billion, according to Forbes.

Rubicon Global President Elaine Richards told Atlanta Business Chronicle that in 2018, the company needs to build on its strong 2017 organic SMB growth and and hit its goals of having close to 5,000 SMB customers.
